The Oldest Roller Coaster in the World
Every time people talk about Danish Amusement Parks, everyone thinks about Tivoli, which, in Chinese, is translated as Qu Fu Li, Fun Hidden Here.
There is no doubt that Fun Hidden Here is a splendid place that is full of fun, but in Denmark, and in the rest of the world, the oldest amusement park is not Fun Hidden Here, but Bakken, the hill.
(In Danish En=A or the, used as Indefinite article in front of the noun and Definite article after and spelled together with noun. Bak=Hill, Bakken = The Hill).
Bakken, the oldest Amusement park in the world, is located in suburb of North Copenhagen, in Dyrehaven, the Dear Park. Bakken was opened to public in 1583, and it has almost 425 years of history. 1583 was the time of late Ming dynasty in China. It was a time when people suffered from hunger and worried about civil war. “Fun”, was a remote concept to the Chinese people at that time. Deer Park was where my beloved Danish writer, author of Out of Africa (In Danish: Mit Afrika), Karen Blixen’s family resided.
Inside the oldest amusement park in the world, where I stood in front of in 1992, is the world’s oldest roller coaster, which was completely made by wood. When it was running 425 years’ ago, it must have been creaky, creaky, creaky...
Think back in time; Vikings were not only were skillful in building Viking boats, but also knew how to have fun! As a descendant of a country that had 5,000 years of wars and turbulences, how I envy them!
If there were a real time machine in the world, I would jump on one! I would travel back in time to find the designer of the roller coaster and flip his head and say: “Hej(Hi)! Buddy! You really know how to have fun!”
Note:
1) The data used this article is quoted from Bakken’s website at www.bakken.dk. Thanks!
2) Two of my old photos in 1992 in Bakken, in front of the oldest roller coaster in the world.
3) There can’t find a more appropriate place in the world to hold the World Laughter’s Competition than Bakken, a place that is full of fun!
4) More photos I have found online on Copenhagen and Tivoli.
5) Tivoli is splendid, but Bakken is tasteful!
