Yan is a native Chinese translator, writer and artistic designer. Born in Confucius’s hometown in Shandong province, China, Yan moved to Beijing at an age of two and half with her family and attended the kindergarten, elementary school, middle school and high school attached to Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. After high school, Yan had studied microbial pharmaceutics for one-year but dropped out due to complicated reasons. She then went to college in Denmark and graduate school in the US.
In addition to her mother tongue Mandarin Chinese, Yan speaks fluent Danish and English. Because of similarities among Scandinavian languages, Yan can read newspapers and academic literatures in Norwegian and Swedish. She also knows a few words of French.
A little Chinese teaching DVD Yan published in 2003 was listed as a bestseller under kids’ education category on Amazon. Currently, Yan is writing critics about A Dream of Red Mansions, translating a ca. 150-page book from Danish to Chinese and a book about pandas from Chinese to English (http://www.pandafangmin.com).
